Movement Overhaul in Gears Of War: E-Day
DiscussionComments
This mirrors the industry trend of reducing mechanical friction in third person shooters. Often, these overhauls trade tactical positioning for smoother, more automated navigation.
The last time they fundamentally touched the core loop, we got the active reload. A movement overhaul could be the catalyst for a similarly impactful mechanical addition.
gears 4 and 5 already shifted the weight and momentum of the cover system.
Does the post specify if this is a change to the underlying physics engine or just a tuning of animation states?
If this is actually hitting PS5 like the leaks suggest, a movement overhaul makes sense to ensure the feel is consistent across different controller layouts.
Since E-Day is a prequel, changing the movement could effectively communicate the chaos of the initial invasion compared to the established warfare of the later games.
What if the overhaul isn't about navigation speed, but about how movement interacts with the cover system itself? A shift in movement could fundamentally change the pacing of the combat loop.
I'm not sure the combat loop would actually change... the core of Gears is still about the cover to cover snap, regardless of how you get there!
